Te Au Moana Luau - Wailea Beach Marriott Resort
Te Au Moana, meaning The Ocean Tide, is a prime Maui luau that takes place at a stunning oceanfront location at the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort. Enjoy a Hawaiian-style magical night with music and dances that tell the story of Polynesia.
Prior to the big luau feast, there will be several cultural presentations. Step over to the interactive stations where you will find arts and crafts made by Hawaiian, Samoan and Tongan crafters that tell the stories of their homeland. Create your own floral piece and learn the meaning of the flower lei. Learn how kapa (native Hawaiian fabric) was made from certain species of trees and shrubs. Kapa was designed with a combination of linear elements that cross and converge to form triangles, diagonal forms and squares to give a feeling of boldness to the cloth.
Watch the husking and opening of a coconut and how the liquid is processed to make milk. Enjoy storytelling with the graceful hula dancers…remember the story is in the hands, not the hips! Visit the Hawaiian exhibit displaying weapons for hunting and war. Play ulumaika, a game played during the makahiki, an ancient harvest festival.
The traditional imu ceremony is a vital part of any Hawaiian luau, in which a whole kalua pig is unearthed from the underground oven. The Te Au Moana Luau uses ancient methods and tools in roasting the moist and tender pig. Tantalize your taste buds with Te Au Moana's delicious luau buffet that will satisfy all appetites. After dinner, sit back and enjoy a spectacular Polynesian show featuring music and dances from Hawaii and other Polynesian island nations.
